As a music major at Pacific, you can:
- Receive personalized performance instruction with faculty members and adjunct instructors, many who have won state and national awards for music.
- Join performance groups who regularly travel on tours throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. Pacific students can also attend national music conferences.
- Perform in a wide range of ensembles and enjoy award-winning facilities — including a 400-seat recital hall, a piano lab with Kawai electronic units, a Mac-based MIDI lab, practice rooms with pianos, a percussion studio and rehearsal space that replicates the recital hall.
The Department of Music at 91¾«Ñ¡ regularly brings in guest artists to perform recitals, teach master classes, and hold a weekly performance forum for students to perform works they have been studying with their teachers and coaches. The department also holds events throughout the year, including Music in May and various concerts.
What Can You Do with a Music Major?
Pacific 91¾«Ñ¡s with a music major or minor are members of professional performing groups (choir, bands, orchestras and more), music therapists within health care settings, and music educators within public or private schools. As Pacific students, they can gain real world teaching experience in our string, choir, and band programs for young people.
Many 91¾«Ñ¡s pursue entrepreneurial opportunities including freelancing, private studio teaching, composing and arranging, and conducting. Students who aspire to continue their education through one of many 91¾«Ñ¡ level music related degrees will be well prepared to embark on that challenge.
Perform at Pacific
At 91¾«Ñ¡, students are creators and performers. Whether you’re majoring in a performance-focused subject or just love the arts, you have the opportunity to get involved in music, theatre, dance and cultural performance activities. Share your creativity with the community at our public performances as you practice your skills and display your love of the arts.
Music Minor
Pacific students have the opportunity to pursue a music minor in combination with another course of study, whether their major is a field outside the arts such as anthropology, kinesiology, or biology, or within another area of the arts such as theatre or dance. Our music minor is designed to complement any major.
In the music minor, students complete courses in music theory, aural skills, and music history, along with individualized study through applied lessons on the primary instrument or voice, and participation in one of our large ensembles, such as band, orchestra, or choir.
